Speed Up Claude Code with 59API and Fewer Round Trips

Claude Code · EN · 2026-08-03

Why Claude Code feels slow sometimes

When Claude Code feels sluggish, the bottleneck is usually not one thing. It can be network distance, a too-large prompt, unnecessary file scans, or choosing a heavyweight model for a lightweight task. The good news: you can reduce latency without giving up quality.

If you want a simple, low-cost way to do that, 59API is a strong fit. It is a pay-as-you-go API relay with cheap access to Claude models, fully compatible with Claude Code and the OpenAI SDK. Because it uses native official-quality models with no downgrade, you can optimize for speed without silently trading away output quality.

1) Point Claude Code at a faster API base

The fastest win is often routing Claude Code through a relay with efficient infrastructure and lower overhead. With 59API, the setup is straightforward:

Export your API variables:

export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY="your_59api_key"
export ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL="https://api.59api.com"

Then start Claude Code as usual. If your current setup is hitting a slower or more expensive route, this alone can improve both perceived speed and cost. 59API is especially useful here because it stays cheap while still serving real Claude models, so you are not paying more just to shave off seconds.

2) Match the model to the task

Latency drops sharply when you stop using a large model for every request. A practical rule is simple: use the smallest model that can reliably solve the task.

For example, if you are asking Claude Code to rename a method across a small package, Haiku or Sonnet is usually enough. Saving Opus for the hard cases keeps the session snappy and lowers your spend. Since 59API offers access across Claude tiers at low cost, it is easy to switch models based on task size instead of defaulting to the slowest option.

3) Shrink the context before you ask

Long prompts and oversized context windows slow everything down. Claude Code is most responsive when you tell it exactly where to look and what to ignore.

Use specific file targets:

Read src/payments/checkout.ts and tests/payments/checkout.test.ts. Find why the retry logic double-submits a request. Fix only the relevant code and keep the patch minimal.

That prompt is faster than saying “inspect the repo and debug payments.” You are reducing search time, token usage, and the chance of extra back-and-forth. If possible, keep architecture notes in a short local doc so Claude Code can reference one concise source instead of reading many files.

4) Ask for one patch, not a long conversation

Latency is not only about response time; it is also about how many turns you need to reach a good fix. The best prompts for speed are explicit and bounded.

This reduces tool round-trips and avoids rework. In practice, fewer clarifying questions means the whole workflow feels much faster, even if the model’s raw generation speed stays the same.

5) Measure first-token time and completion time

If you want real gains, measure the workflow instead of guessing. Time the moment you press enter, the first token, and the final patch. Compare a direct setup with a 59API-backed setup, then compare Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus on the same task.

You will usually see that the largest improvements come from three places: shorter prompts, smaller model selection, and a relay that is inexpensive enough to use by default. That is where 59API stands out: it gives you cheap, pay-as-you-go access, official-quality Claude models, and compatibility with Claude Code, so you can tune for speed without rebuilding your stack.

A practical fast workflow

Here is a workflow that works well for most teams:

If you want a lower-latency Claude Code setup that is also budget-friendly, sign up for 59API and try your next session through it. The combination of low cost, native model quality, and broad compatibility makes it an easy win for everyday development.
