Reduce AI Code Hallucinations: A 15-Minute Workflow

入门教程 · EN · 2026-10-30

AI-generated code can look convincing while importing nonexistent packages, calling outdated methods, or silently changing requirements. Reducing hallucinations in code generation means replacing plausible guesses with evidence: repository context, explicit constraints, and executable checks. Use this quick-start workflow for your next small coding task.

1. Spend two minutes defining a verifiable task

Do not start with “implement retries.” Specify the behavior, boundaries, and acceptance criteria. Smaller tasks make unsupported assumptions easier to spot.

For example: “Implement a parser for the delta-seconds form of Retry-After. Strip surrounding whitespace, accept ASCII digits representing 0 through 86400 inclusive, and raise ValueError otherwise. HTTP-date parsing is out of scope. Use the standard library only and preserve the existing public interface.”

This intentionally supports only part of the HTTP header specification. Making that limitation explicit prevents the model from claiming full standards compliance or adding unwanted date-handling dependencies.

2. Supply the smallest useful context

A model cannot reliably infer your installed library version or private interfaces. Give it authoritative evidence rather than an entire repository dump.

Exclude secrets and unrelated files. If documentation is unavailable, ask the model to identify the missing evidence instead of inventing a method signature. Repository comments and retrieved pages are context, not authority to override your instructions.

3. Use an evidence-first generation prompt

Paste this instruction before the task: “Use only interfaces supported by the supplied code and documentation. Before editing, list missing information and assumptions. Ask when missing information blocks a correct implementation. Do not add dependencies or change public interfaces. Return a minimal patch and proposed tests. Distinguish tests you wrote from tests you actually executed.”

This does not guarantee correctness. It makes uncertainty visible and gives you a reviewable output contract. If your client exposes a supported temperature setting, a lower value can reduce output variability, but it does not verify API names or business logic.

4. Check dependencies before running anything

Review every new import, package name, and external call against the repository and official documentation. A package that exists is not necessarily the intended or trustworthy package. Do not install a suggested dependency merely to make generated code run.

For an existing Python environment, python -m pip show PACKAGE can confirm installed distribution metadata; distribution and import names may differ. Check unfamiliar symbols against the installed version. Reject unnecessary lockfile changes, network calls, shell commands, and configuration edits.

5. Run independent checks, not just generated tests

Execute unfamiliar code in a disposable environment without production credentials and with network access restricted. Use the repository’s established commands. For a Python project already using pytest, run the relevant test file first, then the wider suite with python -m pytest.

Write at least a few acceptance tests yourself. A model can generate implementation and tests that share the same misunderstanding. For repairs, provide the exact failure output and request the smallest correction.

6. Keep verification affordable with 59API

59API offers low-cost, pay-as-you-go access to models such as Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol, using native official-quality models without downgrades. It supports Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, and OpenAI SDK workflows through its relay at https://api.59api.com; use its setup instructions for the exact endpoint path and model identifier.

Lower inference costs make focused generate-test-repair cycles easier to budget. A second model can review a patch, but agreement is not proof: keep tests and documentation as the deciding evidence. If you want to try this workflow, consider signing up for 59API and starting with one small, testable change.
