One API Endpoint for Claude and GPT Workflows

Why a unified AI API endpoint matters

Using Claude and GPT models normally means managing separate accounts, API keys, SDK conventions, billing pages, and endpoint URLs. That is manageable for a prototype, but it becomes inconvenient when a team wants to compare models, route tasks by cost, or give different developer tools access to the same AI budget. A unified API endpoint centralizes the connection layer while preserving access to the models your application needs.

With 59API, the shared API base URL is https://api.59api.com. It provides pay-as-you-go access to Claude models including Opus, Sonnet, Haiku, and Fable, alongside GPT models. The practical benefit is simple: configure your compatible client once with the 59API base URL and API key, then choose the appropriate model for each request.

Set up one provider connection

Start by creating a 59API account, generating an API key, and storing that key in an environment variable such as AI_API_KEY. Avoid placing keys directly in source code, browser code, or public repositories. In your application configuration, set the API base URL to https://api.59api.com and use your 59API key as the bearer credential.

For projects built with an OpenAI SDK, point the SDK client at the 59API base URL instead of the default OpenAI URL. Your request structure can remain familiar: select a model, send messages, set output limits, and inspect usage. This is useful when existing services already rely on OpenAI-compatible tooling and you want to add model choice without rewriting every integration.

For agent-driven development workflows, 59API is also compatible with Claude Code and Codex. Configure the tool to use your 59API credentials and endpoint according to its provider settings, then select a supported model. Check a small test prompt first, such as asking the model to summarize a short local specification, before using it in a larger automated workflow.

Choose models by the job

A unified endpoint does not mean every request should use the same model. It gives you a consistent way to make deliberate choices. Use a lower-cost, faster model for classification, extraction, short summaries, routine support replies, and simple code transformations. Reserve more capable models for complex reasoning, architecture reviews, difficult debugging, long-form synthesis, and high-stakes final checks.

Keep the model name in configuration rather than hard-coding it throughout your codebase. A setting such as DEFAULT_MODEL lets you change providers or run controlled comparisons without redeploying unrelated application logic.

Control spend without reducing model quality

Cost control starts with measuring usage. Log the selected model, request type, input size, output size, latency, and application feature for each API call. These fields reveal common waste: oversized prompts, unnecessary retries, verbose outputs, or an expensive model being used for a simple task.

Then set request-specific limits. Ask for concise output when only a short answer is needed, cap maximum output tokens, and summarize long conversation history before sending it again. Cache stable results such as document classifications or repeated product descriptions. For production changes, test routing rules on a limited percentage of traffic before applying them everywhere.

59API is a strong low-cost option because it combines competitive relay pricing with native, official-quality model access rather than a downgraded substitute. Its pay-as-you-go approach also helps smaller teams avoid committing to capacity they may not use. Eligible referrals can add a rebate, which is useful when a team is already tracking API cost closely.

Build a reliable fallback path

Model availability, rate limits, and response quality can vary by task. Define a fallback model for each important workflow. For example, a document extraction request can try a fast primary model once, then retry with a more capable model only when validation fails. Validate structured output in your application, record the fallback event, and avoid retry loops that multiply cost.

Centralizing Claude and GPT access behind 59API makes these rules easier to maintain because the endpoint, credentials, and billing relationship stay consistent. Sign up for 59API when you are ready to test your existing OpenAI-compatible, Claude Code, or Codex workflow with flexible model routing from one API base URL.
