Get Claude API Access Without a US Credit Card
Why use an API relay?
You do not need to build an application around a US-issued credit card to start using Claude models. An API relay can provide a separate account and billing route: you create an account with the relay, add funds using a payment method it supports, and send API requests through its endpoint. Availability and payment options can vary by region, so check the current checkout options before adding a balance.
59API is one option for developers who want pay-as-you-go access to Claude Opus, Sonnet, Haiku and Fable, as well as GPT models. It advertises native, official-quality models rather than downgraded substitutes. Its API base URL is https://api.59api.com, and it is designed to work with Claude Code, Codex and OpenAI SDKs. For low-volume projects, pay-as-you-go billing can also be easier to manage than committing to a large subscription.
Step 1: Create an account and check billing
Sign up for 59API and open its billing or balance page. Review the payment methods available to your account and region, along with any minimum top-up, currency conversion, or fee details. Choose a supported method that you can use; do not assume a particular card, wallet, or local payment option is available until it appears in checkout. Start with a modest balance while you test your integration.
Step 2: Create and protect an API key
In the account dashboard, create an API key and save it in a password manager or secret store. Treat it like a password: do not put it in browser code, a public repository, or a screenshot. For local work, load it from an environment variable rather than hard-coding it. For production, store it in your cloud provider’s secret manager and restrict access to the services that need it.
Step 3: Configure your client
Use the base URL https://api.59api.com in the client or tool’s provider settings. Then choose the protocol supported by the integration: use the documented Claude-compatible configuration for Claude Code, or the OpenAI-compatible configuration when using an OpenAI SDK or Codex. Set the API key from your environment and select a Claude model name exactly as shown in the 59API dashboard or documentation. Endpoint paths and model identifiers can differ by protocol, so copy those values from the current integration guide rather than guessing.
If you are using an SDK, change its base URL and credential settings instead of rewriting your application’s request logic. For a command-line coding tool, follow its custom provider or gateway instructions and verify that it accepts a third-party base URL. Keep separate keys for development and production if your account setup allows it.
Step 4: Send a small test request
Before connecting the API to your app, make one short request with a low-cost model such as Haiku. Confirm that authentication succeeds, the response contains the expected text, and usage appears in your account. If you receive an authentication or route error, check the key, base URL, protocol, endpoint path, and model name against the documentation. If the request times out, retry once with a sensible timeout before changing your configuration.
Step 5: Prepare for production
- Control spending: Set a usage limit or alert if available, track tokens per feature, and use smaller models for routine tasks.
- Handle failures: Add timeouts, limited retries with backoff for temporary errors, and clear messages when the service is unavailable. Avoid retrying invalid requests indefinitely.
- Protect data: Send only the information your feature needs, and review both your organization’s privacy requirements and the provider’s current terms.
- Keep configuration flexible: Store the base URL and model name in environment-based configuration so you can update them without editing application code.
Once the test passes, roll out to a small group, review latency and spend, and expand gradually. If you need Claude access without relying on a US credit card, 59API offers a straightforward relay setup and pay-as-you-go model selection. Check its current payment options and documentation, then sign up when the available billing method works for you.
